The former US Marine found his way into the mortgage and financial services business in a rather unexpected manner: he met a broker at a cookout over 20 years ago. Impressed by Shumate’s communication skills, the broker offered him an opportunity, which he embraced wholeheartedly. Over the course of approximately 22 years in the industry, he has worked as a loan originator, FHA liaison in loss mitigation, secondary markets, banking fiduciary, and as a title insurance underwriter representative.

“Regarding my role at Rynoh, I’ve worked in several verticals purposely, so that I might have a greater understanding of the real estate conveyance process as a whole,” Shumate explained. “Real estate transactions are a complex process with multiple parties involved, speaking different vernaculars and my exposure to each segment allows me to be resource to our partners which can enable them to better serve their customers.”
Shumate learned some important career lessons in the Marine Corps. He learned discipline and accountability and how process development is paramount in achieving a goal. Shumate relies on a tried and true approach as “if I do A plus B I can expect C.” The challenge is in developing the approach once the goal has been ascertained.
